What is a "cheesy horror movie"?

I hear that all the time, but I'm just not really sure what makes a horror movie "cheesy."

  • a low budget, a poorly written script, a predictable plot, and a black guy dying first. exposed boobs and/or sex in a graveyard are also helpful additions to the cheese factor.

  • Hausu was one. It was so dang funny, yet, was a "horror".
When they are really dumb and fake.

  • Halloween 3. The one with the masks. Or one from the 80's called The Stuff.

  • Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Toxic Avenger, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (and any of the sequels) are examples of "cheesy" B-rated horror flicks. Cheesy is when you can see they are so very cheaply made. The special effects are basement effects ... pie plate as a UFO.

Technically, Scream (whole series) even though it is a big budget movie, could be considered cheesy because of the premise of the movies.

Scary Movie series is another example.

Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness ... funny as hell but borderline cheesy. Basically, pretty much anything with Bruce Campbell (except his series Burn Notice) can be considered cheesy.

Hopefully, that helps clear things up for you.

  • Spirited Witch has it.
I'll add Creature from the Black Lagoon, They came from Mars, and one about giant killer rabbits.
