Painting an old b-b-q

I'm converting my old bar-b-que into a planter and I've scrubbed most of the black grime off of the inside of the lid. Now I plan to paint inside the lid. Can I paint over the grime part that won't come off? (I may end up doing it anyway and seeing what happens.)

  • Get a wire brush and scrape more off. Then prime it before you paint it.
