Do cats purr in their sleep?

Okay, I have a lot of cats, but this one is just bizarre... One of my older, and most elusive, cats has been sleeping right next to my head for the past week or so. Usually I only see him first thing in the morning, when he wakes me up to get fed. Anyway, he purrs. Not just when I pet him, the ENTIRE NIGHT! And even though he's only about 6lbs or so, he sounds like an V-8 engine, he's loud! It actually wakes me up. I don't want to kick him out, because well, he's usually so aloof, and I kind of like him being more affectionate, but man... I didn't know cats could purr for 6-7 hours straight, heh.

  • Mine purrs all night long... and he sleeps with his back legs stretch out behind him and both front paws straight out. He looks like he's flying...

  • Are you sure it isn't snoring? Kitty apnea? Seriously, you might want to tell the vet. I will say that I have seen many cats purr while eating which is hilarious!

  • My big cat purs in his sleep

  • Trust me, it's not snoring (even though that would be pretty funny). He's perfectly healthy, just weird. He sneezes when you tickle him under his chin, too. My other cats purr, but it's this nice, relaxing sound. He actually manages to sound hyperactive when he purrs, heh.
