  • We buy used clothes, sometimes even used toys, I make my own cleaners, laundry detergent, shampoo, deodorant, etc. etc. I have a vegetable garden, we visit U Pick places for apples and berries, farmers markets, I make a lot of things from scratch like bread, butter, pasta, sauces.....

  • I take money out of the checking and put it in a savings that my DH can't touch. Cause if I don't he will spend it.

  • We live by the oldest rule in the book. We spend way less than we earn.

  • We don't spend! :D

Our entertainment is generally free stuff. We don't go out to eat. I clip coupons and we only spend what is necessary - housing, insurance, utilities, phone, etc. We have no debt and don't buy anything unless we can pay cash. We have old cars - spent about $2100 on the last four vehicles we have purchased.

The last two years we have been able to take a vacation and it has been SO fun to have a little bit of money to go away for a week. But even our vacation cost less than $2000.

  • I don't! :-| I suck at it!

(Unless you're talking about putting money into savings.. I just have a set amount that is automatically withdrawn from checking and put into savings. We don't touch that. I am just reallllllly bad at cutting back on non-essentials to save EXTRA money).

  • we live pay check, to pay check. and sometime we still can not buy what we need. We are a one family income.

  • Right now we're only buying what we need and watching where we drive (we have a pick up and an SUV). We rarely eat out these days. We are fine with hand me downs from friends with older kids. I rarely pay full price for anything (and that was true when I was single and had money to blow). Entertainment is usually free or discounted.

Our kids are being raised to appreciate experiences more so than material items. They do have "stuff" and we buy them things, but it isn't the focus of our affection for them or how we spend our time.

  • don't go out to dinner anymore, only clothes shop when we need something, give less for gifts, use Netfix so we have something to do on Saturday nights.
