hes not sitting up yet

My son is 6 months old and still cant sit up by himself. Hes not even very good at sitting supported he leans forward. Shouldnt he be sitting by now?? He is rolling over and tring to figure out how to crawl already but he cant sit. is there anything I can do to help him learn besides holding him while sitting and whatnot. What do I do? When do kids usually get the sitting thing down?

  • you shouldn't worry, my son was getting somewhat firm by the age of 7-9 months. Give him time, very important though, do not compare him with other infants around you, some do things earlier than others and there is nothing wrong with it! lol

  • My daughter refused to sit up for the longest time. If I sat her up, she'd fall over. She wouldn't lean forward to support herself or put a hand on the ground to hold herself up. Nothing. She finally did it 2 days before she started to crawl. She hit every physical milestone early - except for sitting.
Your little guy sounds fine - stuborn, but fine. If he was just lying there, I'd be concerned. But he's already trying to figure out how to crawl. He's not interested in sitting. He wants to MOVE, not sit.

  • Don't worry about it Mama, he's got his own plans. I, personally, am freaked out about the day my son will sit up on his own, he's already growing way too fast! :)

  • Usually babies start sitting up by themself when they are around 10months. So dont worry about it mommy :)

  • you can buy a bumbo seat or i got the summer infant 3-in-1 seat. it helps them learn to sit up. ive been using mine since my son was 4 months and he is now almost 9 months. it helps them learn to sit up and use their stomach and back muscles to help keep balance. my son started sitting up alone at 7 months.

  • My son sat up on his own at 8 months. Started crawling at 9 months, and the very next day after he learned to crawl he started pulling up on everything. Now at 10 months just last week he figured out how to climb up stairs. He's still holding onto things & walking but he'll forget to hold onto something & be standing by himself then realize what he's doing & fall down.
