can babies have nightmares?

My dd is 8 months old. and last night she woke up screaming bloody murder! i raced out of bed and into her room. she was sitting with her arms up eyes closed and just screaming! i picked her up and tried to calm her down but nothing worked.i had to turn the lights on and hold her and rub her back for over an hour to get her to calm down and go back to sleep! do u think it was a nightmare?

  • I've always wondered what babies could have nightmares about. Their first fall? Bottle being empty? A scarry old person they seen in wal-mart? lol i wish i knew!

  • Night Terrors and Nightmeres are the same thing.
But yes, infants as young as minutes old can have nightmeres. Their brian works just the same as ours does and plays on our fears to create images while we sleep.
