are some kids more likely to get sick than others?

my 2 1/2 year old son has gotten bronchitis two time within 3 months, i feel this is not going to be a good winter. Do some kids just get more sick than others? btw he never really was sick as a little kid- not until he got around one and a half.

  • Of course. Each of us has our own immune system which fights off infection, when children don't have a strong immune system they are more likely to be sick.

  • It really just depends. All of my kids were in daycare at some point and went through a series of illnesses. When they began school they really weren't out nearly as much as some kids.

Bronchitis can be tricky because you cannot always hear the lungs being unclear until they are very bad. I'm asthmatic and was always getting bronchitis. One year it came back 4 or 5 times, but that was way before the breathing treatments available now.

  • yes I think so. Plus kids with moms who are always disinfecting stuff get sick more often too (seems counter productive doesn't it) because the kids have low immunities due to not being exposed to germs.

  • My son is 4.5 years old and he has only been sick 4 times. He eats really healthy, organic, natural food. We also keep him away from sick people, if possible. No one is allowed in his face. He has attended preschool since he was 2.5 years old too.

  • Is he asthmatic? or Allergy prone?? I know it can be hard to diagnose these thing in a little one but it might be worth checking into.

  • if it has been twice in three months, i wonder if he really had a full recovery the first time? i wonder like others about asthma as well. i would try to keep the air clean and moist. cut back or eliminate harsh household cleaners. you can clean most of your home with vinegar and baking soda. don't use candles or air freshners. keep a humidifier in your lo's room.
i think that sometimes people have their weak spots...maybe some people are more prone to lung issues, others maybe headaches, others maybe stomach issues, i wonder if it is not somehow connected with personality...but that may be a bit far fetched : )

  • Yep. All kids are different and environment plays a part, too. My son was hardly ever sick, (He'll be 3 in January.) but then he started a once a week Mother's Day Out program. Now he picks up little bugs more often, but still gets over them quickly. He's also still breastfeeding and eats very healthy, so I know that helps.

  • My kids never attended daycare and still got sick at least twice a year. And at school they still only get sick once or twice a year. My daughter is already sick this year. Might be one of those years.
