For those mommys who chose not to give their child a middle name, is there any reason why?

  • I don't have a middle name! They're not custom in my country. I was born in Hungary. Both my kids have middle names though.

  • I guess just because it's common to do so, never thought otherwise!

  • When DD was born we didn't really have a first name chosen. We sort of had a girl name and no boy name at all. Thank goodness she was a she or we really would have been in trouble. We figured out a first name but couldn't find a middle name we liked. We said then and remind her every so often (she is 11) that if she finds a middle name she really wants, we will pay for her name change.

Both of her brothers have middle names. It wasn't a shouldn't but just couldn't figure it out.

  • @balagan_imma that is so awesome you would let your daughter pick her middle name! I would have loved that growing up

  • I know a mom who gave her kids just an initial for the middle "name". It was done at the father's request because his name was so long and he didn't want his kids dealing with a long name. Very simple reason.

  • My daughter has a middle name, but I've been told by others whose kids don't have middle names that they did it because they couldn't find a middle name that they liked that went well with the first name.

  • None of the girls in my family have a middle name. When they get married they are expected to put their maiden name as their middle name. So instead of being Jane Doe you'd be Jane Doe Smith once you got married.

I didn't add my maiden name once I got married. And I'm perfectly happy without it. We haven't decided yet if we'll give our daughter's middle names. I think it's a kinda cool tradition.
