want to make halloween brownies today with the kids, but no vegetable oil...

i do have olive oil, can i use that instead? i have made brownies with butter before and they turn out "cakey" and not fudgy the way we like them. i know that must have something to do with the lack of vegetable oil. so could i substitute with olive oil?

  • Do you have any applesauce? That's supposed to work really well in brownines. I think olive oil will affect their taste.

  • You can but they'll tasted slightly different. Unsweetened applesauce is a good substitute too.

  • Canned pumpkin is an excellent oil substitute. I don't see why that would be voted down. Well anyway, I am glad you went with the applesauce and the brownies turned out okay.

  • Yes, use an equal amount. It will be fine. Also using olive oil can give it an off flavor.
