Dear moms, how long does it take for the baby's umbillical cord to fall off? My baby is 15 days old and still has umbilical cord. Is it normal? Thank you!

  • That's fine! It can take up to 3 weeks. Is it coming loose at all? Don't ever pull on it, but I promise he won't go to kindergarten with it!

  • It should fall off soon. Is it getting dry? Did you ask the doctor? I'm sure it's fine. I really can't remember how long it took!

  • Thank you so much! It is dry, yes. And I treat it with a qtip with alchohol a few times a day. But it's still there. My sister tells me her kids lost it the first week, so that is why I am somewhat concerned. Olga

  • My son was just a few days old, my daughter was almost 4 weeks. I was so excited to give her a real bath.

  • With my first son it took 5 weeks (I really thought he'd be going to Kindergarten with it!) As long as it looks fine, no signs of infection, then no worries!

  • Yes, that is normal... it can take a while some times. My sons was completely healed by 1 week. I was expecting it to take a lot longer.
