how do i know what size bike to get for toddler/preschool?

my parents want to get bikes [not the low tricycle kinds] for my 2.5 and almost 4 yr old for Christmas. how do i know what size to get them? is it based on their height/weight or age or both? thanks!

  • Height/weight, I believe.

    Take them to a bicycle shop to be measured appropriately.

  • My dad's a bike man! A twelve inch for the boy and a 16 for the girl. They'll most likely need training wheels.

  • have them straddle the seat at the lowest setting if they can touch the ground flat footed it is the right size

  • We're getting bikes for our babies for Christmas also, so we just took our kiddos to ToysRUs this weekend and sat them on the bikes to make sure...
