What color is the inside to a ripe pumpkin?

I bought two baking pumpkins and cut them open one of them was a dark orange and one was a very light orange inside so which one is ripe? Are they both ok or is one bad?

  • Should be light orange. The darker one is over ripe

  • mine are usually pretty light when I cut them open. does the darker one smell funny?

  • They are usually light orange, smell them and if they have a funny smell they are bad.

  • well I thought it might me to opposite (the light one was bad) so bake with the dark one and it did not seam bad and put the other aside so now I think I will bake light one thanks every one : D
