What kind of dogs do you have?

And why did you choose those breeds, or that dog if you got a mixed breed from a rescue? I have a cocker spaniel and a lab/Pyrenees/Dane mix. Both are rescues. My cocker came out of a really bad puppy mill situation (former 'owners' are in jail now for animal cruelty). She's old but we aren't sure how old. I'd never really thought about a cocker spaniel before, but soon as I saw her picture on petfinder I KNEW that was the dog I was supposed to get. My big dog... I wanted a big dog and my husband wanted a puppy. We found her on petfinder as well. She was ten pounds when we brought her home and now she's pushing 80 and will be eight months old in a couple weeks. She drives me crazy but I love her anyway :)

  • I have a Puggle. She is a beagle and Pug mixed. We are her third owners. Someone bought her from a pet store and then didn't have the ability to care for her. Then a friend of her's took the dog while looking for a new owner. I heard about her and said I would take her. I have her because no one else wanted her. We got her when she was 8 months old. That was three years ago. She is still high strung, but we make it work.

  • We adopted a shelter dog - she's a shepherd/husky mix. I wanted a dog that would be a little bigger so our little one would be able to play with it without hurting it (bigger dogs are usually more patient with little ones than smaller are, from my experience, lol), and we saw her and just fell in love. She's such a sweetheart. :)

  • I have been bit in the face by two different cocker spaniels. I will NOT own one, nor reccommend them.

We have a border collie/australian shepherd cross that DH brought home to work cows with, and she does fantastic. We chose the cross because border collies are super smart, and sometimes skittish, and aussies are harder to call off when full-blooded.

We also have a rat terrier. I wanted a small dog that wasn't overly wiry, was good with kids, and wasn't a shivering mess like a chihuahua or nippy like other small breeds. Not only this, she mouses better than a cat!

When I worked in a grooming salon border collies bit me all the time... them and shih tzus. Doesn't make all of them bad. To each their own though.

  • We have a Shetland sheepdog. We bought her from a breeder. I wanted her because the breed is really smart and beautiful.
