  • The best way for a child to learn anything, including respect, is by example. If they see people around them showing respect then given that children copy others as a natural part of their growing up, then they too will have the respect that they see others having.

  • I started when they were very little. When they talked back or were rude, they got punished. I mean at 2 yo. Then, as they got older, we taught respect by demonstrating it. We also punished them anytime they were disrespectful to us or anyone else. We also praised them and reinforced respectful behavior. We established the parent/child order early and then we were strict, acknowlegded when they were doing well, punished (fittingly) when they faultered. They were made to take responsibility for their mistakes and then fix those mistakes. Now, they are 26, 24, and 15. They aren't perfect, but they move very well within society without getting into trouble.

  • We lead by example. Our son's teacher tells us all the time that our son is the most repectful student she has. He uses manners even when trick or treating last night. He said thank you to every person who gave him candy.

  • I make them watch this videos about how to talk to kids & adults and stuff. Then if they behave bad,I take away something very important to them,ex:their cell phone(if they have one),or they're video games.

  • I treat my child the way I want others to treat me:

    no yelling
    no hitting
    politeness
    kindness

So far my good example is rubbing off on her.
