how to find a therapist

How do you find a therapist who embraces a certain philosophy of parenting or a certain type of treatment? Is there anywhere I can go to search, or do I need to go through the phone book and call up each therapist and ask a few questions?

  • As far as I know, you need to call and ask. Or maybe check your pediatrician for recommendations?

  • You can find therapists who largely practice only one theory ... however, they are somewhat rare. It's much more effective to allow the therapist to choose the appropriate model of treatment (and it's related theory) based on specific client needs.

  • You can look for your area online too and email them if they offer it.
