uugh, my daughters algebra homework, can someone help solve this?

what is h if :

A=1/2h(a+b)

• A = 1/2 time h divided by a+ b
Do the out of paretnhesis and the in parenthesis as their own problems then dived them.

• OK, you need to isolate the h. the first thing I did was divide both sides by the (a+b) so that the equation is A/(a+b)=1/2h.
Then you need to divide both sides by the 1/2 in order to solve for h. But when you divide by a fraction you invert it, so you are multiplying the A/(a+b) by 2/1 and not 1/2. Therefore, it is 2A/(a+b).
does that make sense?

• making a the subject

FIRST

* rewrite the equation as A= h(a+b) / 2 or 1h(a+b) / 2...same thing
* multiply both sides by 2 to eliminate it from the Right Hand Side (RHS) ...so now u will have

2*A =2A= h(a+b)

* divide both sides by h to get rid of it over the RHS

so now

2A / h = a+b

then finally
* subtract b from both sides so u have a as the subject

so the final equation will be

2A/h - b= a
