If you yell something like, "Hey stupid!" or "Hey ugly!" in a crowd, and someone turns around and angrily yells, "Hey!! (blah blah blah)" back, do you agree that they are admitting to being whatever you yelled, even though it was meant towards no one in particular?
This is hillarious! I think insecurities are the answer here! You gave me a great idea for the next drag race we go to!! It will be very interesting to see what happens after everyone has a few in them!! LOL

Try this one: Walk into a crowd of people (with a partner or other friends) in a public place outdoors. Not so conspicously start pointing up at the sky and kind of make like whispering and see how many random people start searching for what's not there.
