Have you ever taken valtrex for a cold sore?

And also, have your children ever gotten one? My 5 year old has one.

  • I did the first and only time I ever had a cold sore outbreak. It was horrible and I was really really sick. I went to the dr and they gave me Valtrex and thank goodness that was over 6 yrs ago and I have not had any since then.

  • Oh, and my son has never had one thankfully.

  • I did once and it worked great. It has to be taken when you first feel the "tingle" of the cold sore coming on. Otherwise, I used hydrogen peroxide or Abreva. I get them all the time.

  • No, I get them regularly, don't know why, but never tried Valtrex. They're not that big of a deal.
