Has anyone used the My Baby Can Read thing?? Does it really work??

  • I haven't tried it but the Today show just interviewed the "doctor" who invented it this morning. It was pretty much agreed among "child development experts" that it's a bunch of hooey. At the very best, they say, all you are doing is teaching your child how to memorize a flash card or something on the TV/computer screen. And that is not going to give them a better edge at reading than any other child.

  • Nope. It is a gimmick. Actually reading and playing with and talking to your kids helps far more than a video.

  • My son got bored with it before he learned to read (I didn't buy it my mom did) Now he is learning to read with Bob books. He loves them.

  • It teaches memorization, not reading.

  • It is rote memorization and doesn't teach them reading comprehension so they are not really learning to read.
