Is it normal to have a child that is afraid to date or have a gf? My son has three girls he texts on and off but refuses to date. He is 14.

  • I would be happy if my son was friends with girls at 14 and not be pressuring him to date anyone.

  • 14 is pretty young for "real" dating. They don't even drive yet, so it's hard to actually ask a girl out. At that age, I think it's normal, and easier for them to do group activities, and just text and talk rather than actually date. I think it's probably better too. I sure wouldn't be encouraging dating at 14.

  • Fourteen is too young to date. Don't pressure him.

  • He's too young to be dating anyway.
Because he doesn't want to doesn't mean he's afraid to date. Some kids just know they're not ready.

  • He's only 14!! At his age, girls are probably rather terrifying creatures. Give him time and leave him alone. If he's still afraid 10 years from now, then start to worry.
