  • You're destroying your body. Under 1,200 calories a day is anorexia. You can not maintain normal body function with that amount of calories.

  • if eating 1200 a day is unhealthy.then how many should i have a day to lose weight?

  • The amount of calories you should eat per day depends on your weight and height. Plus, the amount of weight you lose depends on other things other than your calorie intake and exercise program.

  • First of all, NEVER count your calories, I know a friend that did that and gained extra weight from it. secondly, drinking nothing but water will also increase your weight and give you a higher percentage of water weight. Just eat healthy, and exercise 20-30 mins a day. Drink natural juices, maybe even organic. Diet soda is worse for you as it is, so stopping that is the best thing. Instead of frying food, saute it. dont eat too much pasta or bread that has the most calories.

  • i wouldnt worry too much about counting calories. what you should do is eliminate bad carbs for now.. no bread, no pasta, no chips, no cereal, stuff like that, not even whole grains for now until you loose the weight. eat lots of protein like chicken fish turkey steak tuna, etc. and fruits, salad, and veggies, and cheese. drink alot of water. check out mega-t green tea pills, they really work and give you energy. you should also workout for an hour a day 4-5 days a week. a half an hour is for maintaining weight, not loosing weight. and you dont need any water pills. PM me if you need advice or help!

  • Wow...It amazes me how little people really know about weight loss and the body.

Do NOT eliminate food groups. Eat whole grains-those are good carbs and will HELP you loose weight because they make you fuller for longer. Also, some people do better counting calories, some don't. Your body needs at LEAST 1,200 a day to maintain it's normal function. Without that, it's systems will start to deteriorate and break down any muscle for fuel. Do NOT drink juices if they can be avoided and water will NOT increase your weight. Water acts just like a detox. It will flush your body of toxins. Message me if you really want to know how to lose weight. Do not take a pill because once you stop taking it you WILL gain the weight back. The key is to lose more calories than you take in.

  • Portion control is key, not calories. Buy kids plates if you need to and fill it up, but only eat one plate full.
You seem to have a lot of questions which is good but if you don't know ask your doctor, go to the gym and get a personal trainer for 2 or 3 sessions if you can afford it. Also look at MyPyramid.GOV.
    Educate yourself too.

  • You need to eat more than 1200 calories or you will put your system in a state of starvation and you will be *unable* to lose weight. If you're exercising you should be eating around 2000 calories a day. Eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruit to feel more energetic, which will help you in your workouts. Eat plenty of lean protein (tuna, turkey, skin-less chicken, shrimp/prawns) and avoid deep-fried food at all costs. For snacks, try unsalted, unsweetened nuts and dried fruits.

Way to go cutting out diet pop. Diet pop has been strongly linked to weight gain as it messes up your body's ability to regulate itself.

Drinking nothing but water is good. Try cutting down on sodium to avoid retaining the water.

    Cut out refined sugar.

Limit your starches - no more than four servings of starches a day and try and eat whole grains where possible. Don't cut out carbohydrates entirely.

You could lose 5-10 lbs a week doing this.

  • I agree that counting/limiting calories is not smart. Watching your portions and WHAT you eat is much more important, as is getting exercise and plenty of sleep. Drinking plenty of water and cutting out sodas and sugary drinks is a great start for sure.

  • Losing 5-10 pound per week is pretty much a guarantee that you'll put it right back on. Lowering your daily caloric intake by 300 calories (to start) and then adjusting it as you go is the best route. Eat a little of everything. Portion control is key. Good carbs fill you up longer. Bad carbs are empty calories. Exercise for 30 minutes per day, switch off from cardio to weight training every other day. The more muscle you have, the faster you burn fat. You should lose an AVERAGE of 1-2 pounds per week...with a few weeks of NO loss, in order to up your odds of keeping it off.
