To the Mom's of bi-racial kids

what color doll do you buy? I have two bi-racial children. My son is 2.5 (don't buy dolls) and a daughter 2 months. I just bought her a few porcelain dolls but didn't think about this until after the fact especially since I bought all white ones ( I am white). What r ur thoughts on this?

  • What kind of question is this? What does color matter?

  • Buy her a couple of each, she will take to whatever doll she likes..children are beautifully colorblind :). I'm white, the daughter of 2 white parents and my favorite baby doll as a child was black! let her decide! :) Hope this helps..

  • I understand what you are talking about. My SIL has a son who is bi-racial. She is white, but everyone sees her son as black, not mixed. Buy her whatever you want. When she is older and expresses a preference, go with it. If she never sees a difference, you've done your job well!

  • my kids are bi-racial, hispanic and white. We buy my daughter whatever doll she wants. She actually is very fair and has light hair and eyes, no one really knows she is half hispanic, but she always picks out "brown" dolls :) That's what they call Daddy.....brown.....LOL!
For now, it doesn't matter much, when she gets older, let her pick for herself.

  • My daughters have dolls of every color. They like what they like, I buy what they like. They're not picky about things like skin color of a doll. Oh and they're white/hispanic (my girls)

  • I only have a boy so I never really thought about what color I'd buy if he were a girl. But thinking about it now, I'd buy both, or really ALL colors. I wouldn't stick to just one color doll. The world isn't just one color (obviously) so I wouldn't buy dolls all one color to portray it to my kid that way. Honestly, I think even't if he weren't biracial I'd still do the same thing.

  • My child is not biracial, but my nieces are. We all (mom, grandma, me) buy them a variety of differently colored dolls. Not really focusing on the colors really, but weather or not they like the doll. We do the same thing with my daughter. She has all sorts of different colored dolls.

  • I am not biracial and neither are my children but my daughter has dolls of every color. She likes them all equally the same. There is no written rule that you HAVE to buy your children dolls that match their skin color. Just get her a variety of them.. that way she wont get confused as to why she has dolls of one color but not the other color, know what I mean??

  • My daughter doesn't play with dolls, so I don't buy them. If she played with them, I would buy whatever kind she wanted.
