What alcohol should I have on hand for my BBQ party?

I want to have some basics like vodka, rum, and beer...should I have something else too? I have coke, tonic water, ginger ale, orange juice...for mixings but do not want to spend too much more. I also have a variaety of sodas and bottled water.

  • That seems pretty good to me, actually. Let your guests know you'll have drinks on hand, but if they'd like something else they are free to bring it. I used to like to make a big cauldron of something boozey (obviously usually for Halloween parties - heh - feel free to use a pitcher) to save on wasted booze (i.e., my grandma pouring herself a large glass of Seagram's Sweet Tea flavored vodka and then dumping it down the sink after discovering it "isn't tea").

  • Get a bottle of Pendleton or Crown or Jack. These will make good whiskey and cokes or whiskey and 7s (need 7up)

can also get a bottle of sours mix and make whiskey sours.

  • That should be fine. If they want anything else, tell them on the invite BYO in a fun way! I always say on my invite what I'm serving.
