How long after giving birth should you wait before using tampons?

He still hasn't popped out yet even though I got really excited last night thinking he was going to finally make his appearance. In one of my groups a girl asked about who keeps track of their menstrual cycles and it got me thinking and dreading getting my period back. lol I know I'm going to have to use pads for awhile, but how until I can start using tampons again?

  • 6 weeks. Just like having sex. You don't want anything up there until that big gaping wound heals.

  • 6 weeks. it really heals pretty good after six weeks everyone is right. you have to use pads to catch the lochia (flow) afterward til it stops. right after that you can use tampons but if you breastfeed liek i did it might not appear til you stop breatsfeeding but dotn use breastfeeding as birth control even tho no period. so my child was born in march and i got my period again in July, and used a tampon etc

  • I guess I never thought about it. i didn't get my period until DS was 4 or 5 months old, so it wasn't a problem.
