How often do your babies/toddlers have colds?

My friend's 2-year-old gets a cold about every two weeks, and her doctor told her that's normal. I was like, WHAT? NO WAY!

So tell me, have I just been around unusually healthy kids, or is it really that normal?

  • My buglet (2) has a cold right now, he had one last year about the same time. I think it's the change in the weather. He has been snoring for a few days now and he never snores, his head is very congested.
No, I have never heard of what you are referring to though, that sounds abnormal. But I am not a pedi. either!

  • it really depends, my 17 month old had had 2 colds in the past few weeks, maybe a month. but sometimes he goes months without getting a cold.

  • My son had a perpetual cold from about 8 months till he was about 22 months. Between the colds and his allergies the poor kid had a pretty much constant runny nose.

  • My going on 3 y/o, has been sick only a small handful of times in his life, 4 times max, my going on 2 y/o has been sick like once, and my 8 month old has been sick once.

  • Very rarely. My 4 year old has never been for a sick visit, and my 7 year old hasn't been for a sick visit in about 4 years. They don't even get a runny nose but about once a year. I agree, every 2 weeks is way more than normal.

  • There are so many factors that come into play there, it would hard to be able to pin it down exactly. I would say that perhaps it wouldn't be abnormal for a kid to have a runny nose often, especially if their immune system is a little slow, or they attend day care or something.

  • My son gets 1 to 2 colds a year and he is 9, so I don't think that it is normal.
