DS is apparently clamping down when he nurses and it HURTS... help?

He's almost 14 months, so he's not as dependent on breastmilk, but he still nurses quite a bit and I want to continue. Lately it's been really hurting now and then, usually on the left side. The first few times I couldn't see any problem by looking at the sore nipple, but today just after he let go, I saw his teeth marks in the top of my breast. OUCH!

  • Break his latch the moment you feel pressure or can tell he's biting (put a finger in the side of his mouth and gently pull it open until his latch is broken). Do this every time, as well as telling him lovingly, "No, that hurts Mommy." He'll get it figured out that if he bites, he doesn't get to eat.
