Would hire a male babysitter?

If you knew he was fully qualified?
Maybe even knew him?

Why not? I'd do it.

  • I dont mind if I trust them completely and know them well....women can be just as mean/crazy as men!!!

  • I would if I knew him personally, other than that no. But I won't hire some random babysitter, the only people who have ever babysat for me has been family.

  • If I knew him or was referred to him by someone I trusted I would. Just like a woman babysitter.

  • If references checked out to the same level of satisfaction that would lead me to hire a female sitter I would choose, then yes.

  • Why not? I would have hired my husband (if he weren't my husband). He's great with kids! Babysitting isn't a female-only job. I've had plenty of guy friends that were great babysitters!

  • I have no gender preference.

Answer by JazzlikeMraz at 10:46 AM on Nov. 5, 2010

  • Sure, why not?

My kids have only ever been watched by family and friends and some of those have been guys.  I never even thought twice about leaving them (even with extended guy family/friends that I don't know really well but trust because the people I do know trust them).  Which is the same way I am about women that watch my kids.  My kids hang out at this boy's house down the street and he lives with just his dad (every other weekend at least) and I never thought twice about my kids being over there all the time.  He took my 8yo and 9yo trick or treating with him.  And if there was ever an emergency I'd ask the guy across the street to watch the kids.  He's retired (has a couple kids himself that are the same ages as mine) and really good with kids.  Mine are always over there bugging him about his motorcycles and he doesn't seem to mind.

  • Sure... Why not? We had male sitters when we were growing up. Although I don't hire "sitters" if I had to, gender wouldn't matter one bit.

  • Gender doesn't matter, it's all about trust and the chemistry with your kids. I look at it the same way as finding a pediatrician, are they qualified and do my kids like them?
