What should I do?

My sweet little 3rd grader decided to run for class representative for student counsel. He had to give a speech today. I have been so nervous for him. He is not a good student and doesn't enjoy school much so I was surprised that he wanted to run and helped him prepare. He's a likable kid and has a chance, but unfortunately he will have to split the boy vote with another boy and there is only one girl running so chances are slim. What would you say to him when he gets home? Would you do something special for him? Any thoughts?

  • Yeah... at the age girls have cooties and boys stick together.

  • If they split the boy vote, why did they let two boys run. That is stupid. If he looses or wins.Be positive and reward him for trying.

  • i would just plan a victory party for him. mine was in the spelling bee, she got second place and we still acted like she won. i mean come on he's doing a big thing you have to have something specail planned for it. we went out to her favorite restaruant. she surprised me though and i have to share it, "even though he didn't win the title, he still won for trying."
sorry this is what she really said 'second place isn't bad, next time i'll get first."

  • Anyone in the class could run and it just ended up that 2 boys ran and 1 girl. They do pick two representatives so he has a chance at the second slot.

  • Yes, do something special. It doesn't have to be fancy. And let him know how proud you are of him!!

  • He didn't get it. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. We told him how proud we were for him trying and told him that in honor of trying we will make whatever he wants for dinner and have malts.
