  • It's the Hindu holiday also known as the Festival of lights (that is what "Diwali" translates to.."festival of lights".. It's the big holiday for Hindus, but it is also celebrated by Sikhs, Jains and many others as well. Much like Christmas isn't only celebrated for religious reasons/by Christians in American, Diwali is celeberated by almost everyone in India. It's a 5 day long celebration/festival. We give gifts, we decorate, we light lamps, we have feasts and we hold special pujas in honor of specific Gods/Goddesses (Like Lakshmi the goddess of wealth and prosperity).. Diwali is celebrated for many reasons, the main one being the triumph of good over evil in most Hindy mythos (Ex: Rama defeating Ravana). It's also considered much like the "new year" for us as well.

Happy Diwali.. and may peace.. love.. and prosperity be with all this coming year!!!!!!!!!!!
