My son has a bacterial infection with a "left shift" in his blood count...

WTH does this mean? Are bacterial infections contagious if we have no focus, just really high temps?

  • It means he has an acute infection and that his body is continuing to make more white blood cells to fight it. In general bacterial infections are contagious so you need to do what you can to prevent it's spread.
