Do you know why the govt tried to kill the Native Americans

I was just looking at a movie and General Custer was fighting some Indians. You know the story... But I was just wondering does anyone know why the govt was trying to kill the Indians anyway?

  • Have you read "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"? Excellent book and will give you a lot of reasons, some of then really sickening, as to why the Native Americans were killed.

  • Ever heard of colonialism?

It's much easier when the natives are dead.

  • For the land I believe is the shortest answer. It was easier than negotiations with people who saw everything completely opposite of the government.

  • To get them out of the way. If the Native Americans were more organized, more with their times, they would have had a fighting chance. But, they simply did not understand what they were up against. All througout history nomads have been pushed around.

  • They wanted land, resources. My ancestors taught them how to survive in this country then they tried to kill all of us off and push us into reservations where Native Americans can be controlled.

  • Land, resources, Manifast Destiny, arrogance. Later, it became a way to bury the numerous lies and broken treaties. History is written by the victor, after all.
