If I have a severe cat allergy can I take care of my nephew who has cats

His mom said she would make sure the cats were not around him, and also I am keeping clothes and other essentials at my house. I will change him in the morning when he gets here I just want to get some opinions. i am a very nervous person.

  • Would say give him a bath as soon as he comes in the door. Because even if the cats aren't around him he will still be where the cats have been previously, right? But I would think it should be ok. How severe is your allergy?

  • Yes, give him a bath, change his clothes and throw them right in the washing machine. Hubby is very allergic. Not a bad idea to keep some benadryl, too as PP said. Better safe than sorry. =)

  • Definately change his clothes and give him a bath before you are handeling him. There will be cat dander all over him, even in his hair. You could take a benedryl before he arrives ( half an hour or 45 min prior ), and beyond that you shouldn't have issues. Keep any stuffies or backpack, diaper bag etc in your laundry room or service porch...they will have dander on them as well. Good Luck
