She refuses her Rice Cereal/Oatmeal!!!

My daughter is 8 months old and in the evenings I always give her either rice, oatmeal, or mixed grain cereals. These past 3 weeks she has been refusing to eat them and only wants her bottle. I'm concerned b/c she older now and needs to eat the food not just the bottle. What should I do?

  • Maybe she isn't interested in it anymore.. My daughter was never interested in any kind of baby food. I started feeding her table foods at 6 months old... and now she is a great eater at 12 months old.. Not a picky eater at all.

  • She doesn't need cereal. At eight months, she's probably bored and wants something a little better to snack on.

  • We never did baby cereal, I couldn't get my kids to eat it at all. She really doesn't need cereal or oatmeal, specally if she isdrinking formula.. It's basically just iron and empty carbs. She's probably telling you "gee mom, lets move on to more interesting stuff!" Time to introduce some other foods! Also, when my kids would go through a phase where they only wanted bottles...it was usually when thy hit a growth spurt, or were teething.

  • My son hardly ever would eat it. Have you tried introducing her to fruits and vegetables? She'll most likely enjoy those more.

  • Thanks everyone! I always give her fruits and veggies in morning and she eats that so maybe I'll just be sticking with those in the evening as well. I just always thought they need the cereal but if it's ok if she doesn't eat it then I'm perfectly fine with that :)

  • Maybe try a banana, avocado, pasta. The cereal is kind of gross. Do you mix it with fruit?

  • Fruits an dveggies are fine, she doesn't have to have the cereal. You can also try giving her cheerios. As long as she can chew them and doesn't choke she can safely have them even without teeth if she doesn't have any yet. They are great for teaching the pincer grasp, too, so it's a learning tool as well as food.
