  • It depends. You can use a lot less butter, if that's what you really want for flavor, or you can put something like jam on it, which is significantly less caloric by volume, but if you weren't using much butter in the first place, that's not where you would get much benefit from cutting calories. Eating less toast may be your better bet.

  • Margarine, a table spoon of peanut butter, sunflower seed or soy nut butter is even better. A slice of turkey ham and an egg is good on an english muffin. At least with peanut butter or egg it is a more filling and protein rich alternative.

  • If you are looking for something that tastes like butter, then just stick to butter as it is much better for you than margarine. Try peanut butter, but a very small amount as it is high in calories.

  • "I can't believe its not butter" has a spray and a spread that are both very good. Also, I've heard of people putting low fat yogurt and some fresh berries on their english muffin instead of butter (plan on trying it myself, just always forget the english muffins when I'm at the store!)

  • Don't eat muffins, bagels or toast. Try Honey-Nut Cheerios with Skim Milk and sliced bananas on top
