My dog had puppies Friday night..

And it has completly changed her! We cant get near her with out her growling and snapping at us! She has never acted this way, never bit or snapped at anyone!
We cant even tell if the puppies or boys or girls because she will not let us near them. Some people told us to make her, shes not a big dog but i dont want to find out what she can do!!!
When will she let us?
She had 8 puppies, but the runt didnt make it. We had to even cox her out of her whelping area with sausage to get the dead puppie out of the way!!!

Please help, i just want my dog back!

  • all dogs are like that when they give birth, its not good to handle them anyways because the mom will hide them or not care for them if they are touched to much.

  • I have no idea. Can you call a vet for advice, or a 24 hour emergency vet hospital, just to ask? Good luck!

  • It sounds like she is being a good mama being protective of her pups. I would give her her space for now. Keep an eye on her and the pups but at a distance until she is comfortable with the activity going on around her.

  • I think she is just letting everyone know that she wants to be left alone with her babies- whoever she is the most attached to should approach her with food & water- i would not make her do anything; if you mess with her to much, she is going to lose trust in you & move the puppies where no one can find them- She is Tired & Worn out right now- She will bounce back in a few days when she feels comfortable again- Wishing you lots of luck:)

  • When she is let outside or taken for a walk to do her business you can look at the puppies. She is just being a normal doggy mommy. She will get back to her normal self when the puppies are a little older.

  • Muzzle her if it becomes a real problem.
