  • 38 weeks is fine! 37 weeks is considered full term. Why are you having an amnio this late?

  • The specialist wants to make sure the lungs are developed for the C section since its 2 weeks early.

  • Well.. I'm sure it will be fine. Usually they are developed... many women have babies naturally at 38 weeks

  • Oh- if not, I heard of them giving you steriods to speed up the process. This happen when a baby is coming and they can't stop it, they give Mom steriods and usually it helps a lot. Good luck, congrats on having baby soon!

  • I had my daughter the day I turned 37 weeks. She had no problems with her lungs at all. She was jaundiced which they kept her in the hospital under a special light for almost 2 days, but as far as her lungs they were fine. My SIL delivered all her 6 kids at 38 wks and all were perfectly fine.

  • i delivered my youngest son at 36 weeks and his lungs were mature... with my daughter i had an amnio at 35 weeks, but hers weren't developed yet, so i had 2 steroid shots and had her at 36 weeks with no problems... 38 weeks should be absolutely fine for your child... i'm surprised they are even doing an amnio, since 37 weeks is considered full-term...
