How long should my child sit on the toilet to go potty. Most of the time is spent whining.

  • If you are in the middle of training, give your child five minutes on the potty...if they went, give an m&m and/or a sticker on a potty chart with a lot of praise. set your timer, and every 20 minutes, put your child on the potty...five min...treat if they went...nothing if they didnt...then move to every 30 min, then every 40 min...and up...they will get the idea...they will be upset at first they have to stop playing, but when they see they get a treat for starts the good habit. Once the habit is down, the rewards are no longer necessary :-)
