  • I have a 4 month old that we were told at his last check up to start solids, he's had rice and oatmeal, and veggies but no fruits yet. The doctor recommended holding off on the sweet foods until he really learns to like his veggies. I don't think that will be a problem with him, he's a big boy, already wearing 12 month clothes!

  • 6 months...maybe a week before. I was adamant about waiting, because my DS was nursing full time and there was no need to rush anything before the minimum recommended time. We started with Avocado (mashed and mixed with breast milk), saving the starch for later. Better to start with veggies, and avocado is a PERFECT food.

  • I went with the rule of thumb of a minimum of two teeth present first to start so it was 5 mos, 6 mos and 10.5 mos. I NEVER gave them fruit before about 15 mos at least! Veggies first! Now, at ages 14 yrs, 10 yrs and 8.5 yrs - they all LOVE veggies and always eat them up first!! They often snack on cucumbers, carrots and salads are a big hit with them.

  • About 5 1/2 months for cereal, veggies around 6 months, fruits just after the first few veggies (by 61/2-7 months?). I had planned to wait until the recommended 6 months for solids, but I think he was ready early. He was also born 2 weeks after my due date, so he always seemed older in some ways anyway.

  • 6 months but he wasn't ready quite yet so I quit and waited until he was 7 months. Watch your baby's cues and follow them, not just what your doctor wants you to do or what a book says to do. Formula or breastmilk is all baby really needs in the younger months anyway! Good luck to you!

  • The later the better. After 6 months at least. When they can feed themselves small soft bites by hand. Can sit up unassisted. No mushy gross jar crap.
