How soon do babies hold there head up?

I cant wait be able to hold my baby on my hip. how old are most babies when you are able to do this?

  • Both of my kids were able to hold their heads up by 2-3 weeks old, although I think 1-2 months is the norm.

  • yeah he is holding his head up but not well enough for me to hold him on my hip.

  • my dd held her head up at birth but i could hold her on my hip at 2-3 months i think! idk every baby is different!

  • I would wait until at least 3 months. Do you want to do this for conveinence or because that seems to be the ultimate "mommy" move? lol

  • It would be conveinent, but I love to see girls carrying their babies on their hips its so cute for some reason and yes, very "mommyish"

  • my baby was holding her head up the sec she was born and is now 7 months i have been carrying her on my hip for a month now.

  • it just depends on the baby. mine were 3 weeks. my girl did things way faster than my boy.

  • It completely depends on the child. Some can't until 2 or 3 months even, mine could always hold her head up and it finally stopped shaking around 4 weeks. Lots of tummy time helps. I always lay down with baby on my chest and so she's pretty much always on her tummy. At not even 3 months she's already almost sitting up on her own (just needs help with balance).
