Does anyone else bruise everytime they get blood drown?? Do you know why this happens??

At first they said it was because I had low iron so they put me on iron pills but it still happens, so what could this be??

  • Some people just tend to bleed more than others. May or may not be iron-related. The good news is that it's less likely you'll develop high blood pressure or get a blood clot, but you're more likely to bleed when you get injured.
I'm a phlebotomist, and I've had smooth, easy sticks with some people, and they still bruise, no matter what. It just happens sometimes. (yes, there is a margin of error for skill; we've all had a bad stick!)

  • The tech isn't very good perhaps? Maybe you have tiny veins.

  • My first thought was that the tech is terrible. I only bruise for lousy techs.

  • I have always bruised easy myself and it wasn't because of low iron. I think that some people just bruise easier than others.

  • I don't always bruise but there is one guy that often bruises me because he turns the needle around after he puts it in because he always misses every stinking time. I had to get blood drawn on day 28 of my cycles to check my progesterone levels and then every other day for a little while to see if I had an ectopic pregnancy and now I am still getting a blood draw every week until my hCG is at zero. My arms make me look like a drug user. : (

  • I thought it might be the tech but it happens no matter who it is...
