Why do you vote up answers?

I know sometimes it's because you agree with what the poster is saying and/or to get the credits. Do you ever just vote people up because, even though you may not agree with them, you agree with the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion?

That's why I do it. Many times, I won't agree with a poster on a heated/most bumped subject, but I appreciate their opinion nonetheless and want them to know that by voting up their answers.

  • *When I agree with all or most of what they said. Sometimes if they said almost exactly what I would say, I just vote them up and move on. Sometimes I add my own answer too--just depends.

*When they made me laugh or I thought a response was really witty.

*When I think they expressed themselves well, even if I don't agree with their opinion, and on that same note I've voted people up just for actually answering the question and sharing their opinion (even if it was different from mine) without sounding really hateful or hostile.

  • I usually only vote up if they answered like I would have. Or if they answered a question I asked.
