Have you ever made a donut before or just purchased it from closest store?

I've been thinking about donuts especially since someone posted about pumpkin spiced donuts with cream cheese filling. Sounds really delicious. I usually have just gone out and purchased a box of assorted flavors like custard, jelly, chocolate, etc. How about you? I think it would be an interesting challenge to try and make one though.

  • If we're just in the mood for a few, we buy them. But if I'm craving, I make fresh beignets. They are fairly easy to make - I'd guess the hardest part is that they have to rise overnight in the fridge ... well, that and I have neither a stand mixer nor a hand mixer, so I do everything by hand, with a wooden spoon & a bowl. I make huge amounts when I make them - we're talking at least a hundred - and I share with friends & neighbors or take to church as well as keep for the family.

  • Yeah. In the end its alot cheaper to just buy them unless you plan on making several dozen.

  • They have a knock off Krispy Kreme recipe I googled and made before and they were awesome! They were just plain glazed doughnuts though, no filling.

  • I have made them before for fun. But yeah its a bit of work. I dont like them enough to do it often. Heck, I rarely even buy them.

  • I just buy them, I don't eat them very often. When I do I like lemon filled. Seems like to much work, when I just want one.

  • my son is on a gluten free diet, so I make us GF doughnuts. I actually bake them instead of frying them and they are super easy and delicious! I have a recipe for a diary free glaze too that the kids love. I prefer to top mine with chocolate though :)

  • We used to make Spudnuts all the time growing up. They were Okay... greasy though.. but it was more the memory of all of us kids doing an assembly line of cutting, Dad cooking, then another couple kids powdering them or sugar coating

  • I've made them & am actually planning on making some this weekend. For everyday, I make cake donuts because they're pretty easy, and for holidays or special occasions I make jelly or custard filled donuts called sufganiyot. You can make cake donuts & freeze them for later when you've got a urge for them.
