Would you keep your child home if...?

If he/she were up pretty much all night coughing. My 10 y/o has been pretty much all night coughing and hasn't slept. She missed Monday because she was running a fever and we got a drs note for that day. She went to school today (Tuesday) and made it but has been coughing all night. I gave her the cough meds the dr gave her but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?

  • delsym works good for cough meds. i would give her lots of fluids maybe some pepermint herbal tea with honey. drink lots of water. broth or soup. rest. humidifier at night. i would send her if she can get hte cough under control. i kept my daughter home once last week, then the next day let her stay home for 2 hours so she wouldnt miss a whole day. cough drops may help. steam in the shower too dont turn on the fan let her take a nice warm shower. • She obviously needs rest to perform in school. Get a cough medicine that will work for her and get her better. Doesn't do anybody any good for her to go to school sick and unable to work, imo.

  • yep i 'd keep them home. If there coughing up a storm they don't want them at school anyways, its a distraction

  • If she didn't sleep, what good would school be?

  • If she hasn't slept much all night and up coughing and still coughing after she is up for awhile I wouldn't send her to school. You didn't say if she has a fever, prob not, that's good. Fever=no school. Sometimes getting up and around and a hot shower helps. Hope she gets better quick!
