How much do different generators cost? Other info about them?

What is the capability on them (what can it power, for how long, etc)?

Do you own one?

Could people use a generator and never pay a power bill? [That may sound STUPID and I'm sorry, but I'm honestly curious, lol.]

  • The cost of a generator itself depends on what kind you get and how much capacity it has. You can get a small generator that runs on gasoline that needs to be re-filled every few hours for a couple hundred dollars. We live in Fl and have a Natural Gas Whole-House Generator that cost about $15,000. And, if you are running appliances on any kind of generator then your electric meter and/or your gas meter are ticking away - costing you money. Essentially, the generator becomes your electric/gas company. So you've got your regular bill on top of the extra gas you need to fuel the generator in the first place.

  • Wow, that's expensive! And I didn't realize it still caused your electric bill to go up. (Learn something new every day! lol)

    That's interesting! Thanks!
