What is the normal amount of fluid a 14 month old should have?

My youngest son has begun drinking everything in sight. If someone has a drink he wants one too. He has been drinking on adverage 24-36 oz of fluid at a meal, and he is drinking more during the day as well. So far today he has had 64 oz of fluids, is this normal?

  • kids and animals have something in common, if they're not thirsty or hungry they won't eat or drink. Just make sure they have a full cup/bottle available, and keep an eye on their urine. If the smell is STRONG they're not getting enough water/fluids. If the eyes are wet, or they can cry, they're good.

Every baby, like every person is different, some kids like more/less than others there is no exact amount that is right.

  • Yes it is normal I would think. My kids (1 and 2) have always been heavy drinkers ( lol! ) but let me ask you this: Is he drinking enough water?  He's old enough now to drink water and maybe drinking juices and milk just isn't satisfying him.  Try more water.  Maybe even some phigh protein shake like Pedi-Sure

  • Excessive thirst can also be a sign of diabetes. Ask his doctor about it.

  • I have wondered the same thing! My LO (15 mos) loves to drink! He drinks about 24 oz of water or more and he nurses 3 or 4 times a day. Not counting the other things he drinks (juice and misc). He drinks so, so much.

  • He is drinks mostly water. He doesn't drink any juice except for on occasion. He does drink milk, but that probably only accounts for 20 oz. of his consumption in a day.
