Grandparents night?

I feel bad for my son, they are having grandparents night at his school next week and my Mom can't come. She just got back from a trip and cannot get another day off (we are 100 miles away) to come. I don't have anyone else that can stand in as a grandparent. He asked my grandfather (who is 91) and he can't come (200 miles away)

How does everyone else handle those kind of events when there is no family around?

  • I really think there should not be a grandparents day or dad's day just for this son has no grandparents what so ever and all the kids in his class do when this day comes I think i will just keep him home because I never want him to feel sad for something he does not have

  • I know how you feel. Both my mother and mil have passed. We never knew our fathers. So my kids don't have any grandparents left. I just go to some of the events for each child. We can only do so much.

  • Is there anyone else around grandparent age locally that your kids are close too? A coworker of mine has grandkids across the country and she doesn't see them often, but she spends a lot of time with another coworkers kids because their family is across the country too. She has attended many "grandparent" things with them.

  • I am so sorry. My parents have nothing to do with my son, their choice. But my in-laws are very involved with our son.
