Have you ever made your own preserves or jam?

If so, what kind and what was the recipe?

If you saw my mason jar question, this is why, lol. I want to make a bunch and hand it out with the Christmas gifts. :)

  • All the time - I haven't bought any in years (except one time when I needed an oddball flavor for a cake filling, lol). I follow the instructions in the Sure-Jell pectin - but I only use half the sugar, or less. I've also done a lot of experimenting with flavors. Currently residing in my freezer for next year are: pineapple kiwi, pineapple peach, strawberry blueberry peach, strawberry peach, peach, peach blueberry, strawberry rhubarb, blueberry rhubarb, strawberry kiwi..I know there's more but can't think of the rest off the top of my head. General rule of thumb, I've found, is 7-8 cups fruit, 3-4 cups sugar (all depending on the kind of fruit and how sweet it is already), and 2 packets pectin - which makes a few 8oz & a few 16oz containers.
