how do u know you are having b.hix contractions?

do you feel pain or does your whole stomach just tighten up for a minute? im 36weeks pregnant and not sure if that is what i am feeling or its just lil one pushing his whole body out and making my stomach tight.

  • Either one. For some women they're painful, for others, they're not. It's very individual. If your tummy is tight, you're having a BH contraction. When the "real" ones come, they feel like menstrual cramps that get worse and worse.

  • oh dear lord lol. thanks. i just had it for the first time tonight and wasn't sure cos it didn't really hurt. more uncomfortable than anything.

  • Like PP said, sometimes they hurt, sometimes they don't. If you feel a contraction (kind of like menstrual cramp with tightening), you will know it's BH because they won't a) increase in intensity or b) increase in occurrence. If you have them every 10 minutes and they never get any closer together or they come and go, those are BH. If you have them every 10 minutes, then every 9, then every 8, etc., those might be the real thing and you should call your doctor/midwife once they are about 3 minutes apart.

  • My contractions didnt hurt untill around the end of my labor.When they first started it just felt like my stomach muscles would tighten for a few seconds then let up.
