Chores for a 9 year old??

What are some good examples of chores for a 8 year old girl? I am a SAHM but feel like she should clean her own room and bathroom and pick up after herself...

  • yes, she can clean her own room. i make my 4 year old help me clean up her room. she also helps me change her sheets when she has accidents, not as punishment or anything just to get into the routine of changing her own sheets and making her own bed. she likes to help with the dishes, so i wash the knives, glassware and anything that can cause harm and let her toy around with the other stuff. they dont actually get washed but it's good practice for her future dishwashing days =). she likes to spray household cleansers for me if im wiping things down, but of course i have to watch her everytime to make sure she's not aiming at herself! all of this stuff she enjoys doing so i cant even call it a chore! she is my little helper for sure!

  • Pick up her laundry, put away laundry, tidy room, dust, empty dishwasher, feed the dog, clear the table after dinner, sweep the porch

  • Well, my kids aren't that old. My kids are 3 & 4, but they clean up their own room, pick up their own laundry & dishes, clear the table after dinner and even help out with folding laundry - towels & stuff... I figure by the time they are that age they will be loading the dishwasher, sweeping floors & folding their own laundry as well...

  • Mine did nothing - I was stupid. I'm glad to see your a smart mom! LOL I think cleaning her room, helping with dusting, empty the trash cans, dishwasher duty, setting and clearing the table - dang, I wish I could do it over again!!!!

  • Make bed, pick up room, dust, wipe down counters, empty dishwasher, feed pets, clean windows, sweep floor, help with putting groceries away, empty smaller trash cans around house.

  • At 9, she can absolutely clean her own room, do her own laundry, do the dishes, help with family laundry, vacuum, sweep, take out the trash, and so much more! Mine also has to clean the bathroom she shares with her little brother. She also doesn't complain much. I just told her that when she's a grown up, she's going to need to know how to do this stuff, and that works for us.
