  • You should eat healthy foods. Lots of vegetables and fruits, whole grains too! Lots of protein in various forms. You can be a vegetarian and a vegan and have a healthy diet/ healthy pregnancy.

The best diet is one that includes foods from all food groups, loaded with natural vitamins and minerals. What you cannot get from food should be supplemented by over the counter vitamins, etc. But your body will absorb food nutrients better.

    What not to eat?
Avoid fats, too much salt, too much sugar and overly processed foods. However, we all know we great cravings, so indulge sparingly. Everything in moderation.

  • You should avoid anything that does not settle well, fried food and heavy ones, other than that anything in moderation.

  • You should avoid food with raw egg in it, and also undercooked egg, avoid unpasturised food products such as blue cheese, also avoid liver and pate due to the risk of listeria.Shell fish should be avioded, undercooked meats, any foods past their use by date. You may also need to avoid nuts especially if any close family members have a nut allergy as this can increase the risk of baby having a nut allergy. Caffeine intake should also be reduced. Also, fish such as tuna and sword fish should be eaten in moderation or avoided if you prefer due to the high mercury content.

Try to eat a healthy balanced diet but allow yourself some treats and it's ok to give in to cravings (maybe in moderation!). If you aren't sure of what you should or shouldn't be eating then ask your health care provider :)

  • avoid: Foods that you or family members have a history of allergies too. (Common ones are peanuts and shell fish). Also avoid fish that can have mercury (such as tuna fish or local fresh water fish like bass), Shell fish you should be weary on as well and raw is a big no no. Reduce caffeine intake to about a cup a day. Avoid raw/undercooked eggs and poultry or pre-stuffed raw poultry. And no unpasteurized cheeses (like brie) and juices. And finally unwashed vegetables.
